KESCHTNRIGGL -CHESTNUT DAYS
Culture and enjoyment around local fruit.
In the past, chestnuts were a staple food, but today they are primarily a part of the autumnal Törggelen. At Keschtnriggl, the chestnut days in Lana, Völlan, Tisens and Prissian, visitors gain insights into the culture and customs of the region and learn interesting facts about chestnuts and their importance to people.
Restaurants that offer traditional and modern chestnut dishes as part of the Chestnut Days provide culinary surprises. Walks through the autumn forests with local farmers and foresters are informative and entertaining at the same time. The Keschtnfestl in Völlan with music, a farmers' market, old crafts, farm dishes and chestnut specialties is the highlight of the Chestnut Days in Lana and the surrounding area.
The name of the chestnut days is derived from a traditional South Tyrolean object - the Keschtnriggl, a kind of basket in which the freshly roasted chestnuts are freed from their shells by shaking (riggln).
